Narrative
The cat is a lonely animal, but since his home has been hit by a great flood, he finds refuge on a ship of different species and must bond with them despite their differences. "sounds" real animals do it, so real animals were recorded for the film. To get the sound of the capybara, the sound engineer had to go to the zoo and tickle it. However, real capybara sounds do not match the capybara character, so a baby camel was used instead.
Flow is one of the most impressive and innovative animations I’ve ever seen
There are no dialogues in the film, it only enhances the narrative, perfectly embodies “show, don’t tell” principle. It grabs you from the start with its emotional depth and remarkable world-building abilities. The production design creates nothing but a monstrous, rich, immersive world that has been destroyed by a massive flood. The sound design plays a key role in adding realistic layers to the film’s events, making every moment visceral and vivid.
The original soundtrack is mysterious and fits the film perfectly
The film’s ability to evoke deep emotions, especially with the animals, really moved me – brought me to tears more than once. I also loved the use of shaky cinematography throughout the film which gave the film a sense of urgency and rawness. It weaves tension, curiosity and surprise into key moments, making the experience even more powerful. The cat as the central character easily carries the film.
The whole plot is surreal, the animals are driven by survival instincts
Each animal’s unique personality stands out: the cat is skeptical by nature, the capybara serves as a gentle cleaner, the dog embodies the loyal golden retriever, the lemur is selfish and materialistic, and the bird feels like a cat. guardian angel. The main theme of the film is fear, which is beautifully explored through a visual narrative. Even without dialogue, the drama and tension is palpable, proving that words aren’t necessary to convey deep emotional weight.
Flow is a cinematic masterpiece both emotionally and visually
The film is visually provocative and the communication of complex emotions is excellent. The ending is wholesome and heartfelt, capping off a truly moving journey. I really hope this movie wins an Oscar because it really touched me.
